What is Fee Assistance?
Fee Assistance Leisure Access Program is a program of financial support for residents with low income living in Waterloo, that helps individuals participate in City of Waterloo recreational and affiliated minor sport and arts programs. The assistance is given in the form of a credit to eligible individuals. The amount of subsidy is based on total family income.
Who can Apply?
Any resident of Waterloo living with low income may apply either on their own behalf or for a dependent wishing to participate in programs.
How do I know if I qualify?
If your total family income is below these cutoffs you will qualify.

How do I apply?
Complete a fee assistance application form; attach copies of proof of your total household income; bring all the forms to any City of Waterloo community centre or you can mail them to: Albert McCormick Community Centre; 500 Parkside Drive; Waterloo, ON N2L 5J4 Attn. Lynn Dicks-Egley.

Applications are available in the Document Library below or at any City of Waterloo community centre.
Who will know?
Strict confidentiality is maintained in the processing of fee assistance applications and all other matters relating to personal information.
What programs are eligible?
All programs, organized directly by Community, Culture and Recreation Services are eligible as are Affiliated Minor Sport and Arts programs. Please check program eligibility before applying (by calling (519) 885-1220 ext. 225).
What programs are not eligible?
Fee assistance cannot be used to pay rep fees, membership fees, dues, admission or ticket costs, or program materials and supplies.
When do I apply?
Fee Assistance Leisure Access Program is available all year.
How often may I apply?
You only need to apply annually. Consideration of total family income (before taxes) will determine if you are eligible to receive fee assistance.
How will I know if my application was approved?
If your application is approved, you will receive a confirming letter and Leisure Access Card in the mail (allow for 2 weeks of processing).
How much funding credit will I get?
If eligible you may receive a maximum credit of $300/person/year depending on budget availability.
Can I carry over my unused credit to the following year or another person in my family?
The fee assistance credit given is not transferrable or refundable.
What do I do with the Leisure Access Card?
When you register for a program, show the Leisure Access Card to the person registering you and you will not be charged for the program. You will then contact (519) 885-1220 x225 and let them know what program you registered for and how much it cost. Staff will keep a running total of your fee assistance credit for the year.
What if I run out of the fee assistance credit before the end of the year?
If you’ve used your annual credit before the end of the year, you will need to begin paying full price for any further programs. You may apply for fee assistance again the following year.
