Economic Development aims to create an atmosphere conducive to new and local business retention and growth. We are responsible for:
The Economic Development Team is responsible for the following:
- Manage the City’s industrial land inventory
- Facilitate development projects
- Encourage business retention and expansion
- Foster a positive business environment
- Market the City of Waterloo
- Provide economic and community information
Liaise and partner with community stakeholders including Canada’s Technology Triangle, other municipalities, the Greater K-W and Area Chamber of Commerce, Communitech, Waterloo Region Small Business Centre, Uptown Waterloo BIA, Waterloo Region Tourism Marketing Corporation to deliver economic development services

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
The City of Waterloo Economic Development Strategy was presented to Council at the June 22, 2009 Council meeting for information only. Further discussion of the Strategy occurred at the July 13, 2009 Council meeting. The Strategy was approved in principle at that time.
CITY-OWNED EMPLOYMENT LANDS STRATEGY
As recommended by the Economic Development Strategy, a City-Owned Employment Lands Strategy has been completed for the City of Waterloo and will be presented to Council as information on May 10, 2010. Council will consider the report at a June Council Meeting.
