Welcome to the City of Waterloo's website.

It was a beautiful summer, but fall is approaching and it’s back to school and our regular schedules. At this time of year, the City of Waterloo welcomes all of our post-secondary students to the community. Students are vital members of this city who bring refreshing and vibrant perspectives. It’s important for students to remember that Waterloo is their home, too. I encourage you to get involved in everything this city has to offer, including many volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers help to make Waterloo the wonderful place it is! Right now, we’re accepting nominations for the Waterloo Award, the city’s highest civic honour. If you know someone who has made an exceptional contribution to the quality of life in Waterloo without thought of personal or financial gain, please nominate him or her for this recognition. Nominations will be accepted until Sept. 17.

September is a busy month. On Sept. 11, there are two exciting events you may be interested in. First, I will be holding the annual Mayor's Movie Morning, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Cineplex Galaxy Cinema at Conestoga Mall. Tickets cost $10 per person or $35 for a family of four, and include movie admission, pop and popcorn, and great door prizes. You can choose from one of six movies that morning. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer Society of Kitchener-Waterloo. Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are available at the Alzheimer Society or from Colleen Sargeant at the City of Waterloo. She can be reached at 519-747-8558.

Later in the day on Sept. 11, we’re celebrating the opening of our new fire station – on the east side of Waterloo at University Avenue and Woolwich Street – with a special open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come out and meet the firefighters, watch some exciting demonstrations and enjoy some tasty treats

Please send me an
email or call 519-747-8700 if you have any questions or concerns about what’s happening in Waterloo.
