The mandate of the Waterloo Munciipal Heritage Committee is to:

To evaluate properties in Waterloo with respect to their architectural and historical significance using an established criteria for evaluation.

To prepare and maintain a list of properties deemed worthy of preservation.

To advise and assist Council on the means of preserving historic properties.

To advise Council on available legislation that affects historic properties.

To advise Council on matters involving conservation and preservation of both public and private built and natural resources persuant to the Ontario Heritage Act.

To implement programs of public education concerning the preservation of Waterloo's heritage and architecture.

To advise Council on matters referred to the Committee by Council.
