"Integrity, Craftsmanship, Tradition"; this distinctive motto was used by the Seagram Company to distinguish its corporate image from the 1930s to the 1990s. Throughout its history, the Seagram Company prided itself on its attention to quality and to the unhurried care and specialized skill that went into the production of fine Canadian whiskies.
The Seagram Company had a long-standing tradition in Waterloo, Ontario. From 1857 to 1992 the Seagram distillery operated continuously on the corner of Erb and Caroline Streets (click here to go to the company site plan) in the heart of Waterloo. For many, the Seagram plant was "the place" to secure a good paying job, and a place of work where you were treated "just like family". Numerous workers followed in the footsteps of their relatives, dedicating their working lives to the Seagram distillery in Waterloo.
This online exhibition focuses on the daily work of former employees of the Joseph E. Seagram and Sons distillery in Waterloo, primarily from the 1950s onwards, and highlights the four key working areas of the plant: production, maturation and warehousing, bottling, and administration. It is about the men and women who made the products, the tools they used to conduct their work and the skill required to perform their duties day in and day out.
