One of the most talked about events among former employees of the Seagram distillery was the annual picnic.  Open to all employees both current and past, and their families, the picnic was sponsored by both the company and the union.  It was held at a local park on a Saturday afternoon in August.  Participants enjoyed games, races, rides and an evening game of Bingo.  The highlight of the day was the food, featuring Waterloo County fare of pig tails and rolled ribs.  Prizes were awarded for competitions, and draws were made for gifts donated by the company and local businesses.

John Schnarr remembers the many children's activities at the picnics:  "They had races so they'd have to go out and buy toys for the kids for the prizes … The prizes were good.  Lots of ice cream for the kids, pop, chocolate milk.  Then we had the penny barrels that we [used for] penny rolls … We had little barrels that we cut slots in … and you put money in them and you had tarp laid out and the kid would roll the barrel and the money that fell out they would go down and they'd have to come back and pick up all their money … We ended up, I think we had about six of these barrels going."
